Funded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in February 2010, the California Health Information Partnership Services Organization, or CalHIPSO (for which CAPH is a founding member), aims to foster the adoption of health information technology (HIT) in California. SNI serves as CalHIPSO's Local Extension Center (LEC), titled Information Technology Adoption Center (ITAC) for California Public Hospital Systems. This grant award gives SNI the unprecedented opportunity to provide direct technical assistance to California's public hospital systems to implement electronic health records (EHRs) in ambulatory care and achieve meaningful use to improve the quality and value of health care they deliver to their patients. Examples of direct technical assistance include project management, clinical workflow re-design, and training and education, and are provided at no cost to CAPH-member organizations. In addition to technical assistance on the ambulatory side, financial incentives are also available to hospitals to reach meaningful use on the inpatient side through CMS’ Medicare and Medicaid meaningful use incentive payments.
